Designer Postmortem
Hey everyone I'm Logan Westerbeck the designer for this project.
I was tasked with designing the gameplay for the player. On our GitHub project I was tasked with a little less than 21 hours. All of my tasks ending up taking less than that amount so on future projects I will be able to better gauge how long tasks will take. The main gameplay you see where the player is meant to match tiles to escape was designed by me. I took inspiration from old memory games to try and make a fun short game for players to test their memory. Although unintentional is players choose to restart the game the blocks placement stays the same so it allows players to try and complete the game in less and less time.
The most difficult part of this project for me was being able to find ways to help after the initial game plan and gameplay loop had been decided. Since the game was relatively simplistic in nature there was not a lot of balancing I need to go back and do so I took on the role of designing the castle as well. Overall it felt like there was not for my role to do and so I had to step into other ones to help the team.
My biggest takeaways from this project are getting better at estimating how long tasks will take so I can better optimize my time spent on those tasks so I can get even more done in a span on time. This game came out looking really good and functioning just how I envisioned it to and I'm proud of the final product.
