Postmortem- Bodie Allen

Heyo, I'm Bodie Allen! I'm going to speak a lot more casually and satirically in this postmortem than my last one, that way this can feel more like a conversation than a lesson (even though that's kinda what this is).
The team behind Garbishing didn't really have any set roles, we all kinda picked a spot and went from there. If I had to settle on a title or role, level design is probably the closest thing.
I found the assest for wood structures, the buildings, hermit crabs, and garbage bags. I struggled for a while looking for some trash that didn't look photorealistic, but honestly I think it's better that the "trash" you fish up stays separate from items found around the island.
I then got to placing everything around the island where it made sense! I had a lot of fun making the pier (and realized halfway through how to make it look better. I almost just shoved planks together and called it a day). Throwing trash around the island was also an interesting experience, as unlike it reality where I can routinely throw my nuclear waste into the street, I had to methodically place each item. I would almost call it an art, placing the items so they look thrown about by the world's inhabitants, but not thrown about by me the game making person.
I also drew up the items that get fished up! I realize I'm not the greatest artist, but I had visions for a couple of the items and I really wanted to use this chance to practice. I also may or may not have used it as an opportunity to get used to using my drawing tablet again, the world may never know.
I also^2 made and wrote out the itch page, did my best to make it look tropical and beachy.
My team worked very well together and communicated well with each other! Our downfall however was that life gets complicated, and sometimes work, home life, or other school work can get in the way of something that is more long form. It's easy to say "I have these two things, but this one needs to be done sooner, so I'll do that one later" and keep saying it until you realize that's not how good time management works. However (!), I've come up with the amazing system of planning out time! (Completely unheard of) So this shan't occur again!
All in all, I'm happy with what we were able to do. Would I make some different decisions? Probably not. Would I have like to make them faster? Hoo boy yeah. But I like what we made, even if it's a bunch of garbage (please laugh please laugh that was a joke please).
Good day, and smell ya later.
